Breslau Recreation Events, Programming and Announcements

The Breslau and District Recreation Association’s role with respect to events within the community is primarily to coordinate and facilitate its own offerings and those of others rather than the actual running of events. To that end we have adopted a practice of posting possible dates for events and calling for volunteers to come forward and organize and run the event. Where there are no volunteers willing to be part of an event organizing committee four months prior to a tentatively announced event date, that event may be postponed or cancelled.

WHO ARE WE?

The Breslau & District Recreation Association has a long and storied history.  As the population of the Breslau area has grown and program needs and offerings expanded, the role of the association has also grown. The association has recognized that the full time management of the Breslau Community Centre and all it’s programs is beyond what can be expected of volunteers. Woolwich Township staff have now taken on many of those tasks on and our role has evolved to where we are currently providing an advisory and activist role in the community to ensure that community interests are served and that the Township of Woolwich has a liaison partner with the community. We continue to organize and run many community events throughout the year as well as offer start up support for new community groups.

ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP & THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Membership in the Breslau & District Recreation Association is open to the residents of Breslau and the surrounding district. An elected Board of Directors governs the affairs of the Organization. The present Board of Directors has several vacancies and members of the community interested in serving are being sought.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Do you have an idea for an event, ongoing activity or program you would like to see offered in the Breslau community? Are you willing to organize something new but are wondering how to go about doing so? Do you have a program that needs some start up support? The Breslau and District Recreation Association would like to be of assistance. Please email your ideas or questions to info@breslau.org.

The Breslau and District Recreation Association’s continued success depends upon its many volunteers. Our meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Breslau Community Centre. Contact info@breslau.org to express an interest in attending a meeting or perhaps joining the Board.

RELAY FOR LIFE IN WOOLWICH 2014

Date: Friday June 20th - Saturday June 21st

Time: 7pm to 7am (arrivals begin anytime after 3pm--Survivor Dinner at 5:30)

Location: Campus of St. John's-Kilmarnock School, 2201 Shantz Station Road, Breslau

Cost: $10 registration for participants

Picture hundreds of people – friends, families, co-workers and cancer survivors – united together for one night for one common cause. Every three minutes another Canadian is faced with fighting cancer. That is why hundreds of people in Woolwich will be spending 12 hours together on Friday June 20th at the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life in Woolwich.

Relay For Life is a 12-hour, overnight, non-competitive, team relay designed to bring a community together. The event runs from 7pm to 7am to symbolize what a cancer patient endures in their fight…the dark of night as they learn of their diagnosis, the tough mid-night hours as they receive their treatment and the break of dawn where the new day represents their continuation of life following treatment. Cancer never sleeps and neither does Relay.

Come be a part of our 2nd Annual Relay For Life in Woolwich. Gather a group of your neighbours, family, and friends and enter a team. If you are a cancer survivor, join us for a complimentary dinner and then walk the Survivors’ Victory Lap. Finally, we need many volunteers to make this event a success. Consider lending your support by giving of your time.
