Once again, our Optimist club (South Woolwich Optimists) put on a very enjoyable community gathering at the Mill Pond.
The hard work this group put in on preparing the Mill Pond for skating paid off tremendously. Early in the week, it was looking that the skating event might have to be cancelled, but the weather co-operated and the Optimist club was able to flood an area of the pond to create quite a good skating surface. One area was almost completely free of any of the usual bumps that so often accompany a natural pond skating rink.
Lots of Breslau and area residents turned out and found fun for all ages. There was the usual Hot Chocolate (thanks for helping to keep us warm) and doughnut bits and this year the Club organized a few fun contests. There were hockey "shoot-outs" and a log sawing contest. (My son and I competed in the log sawing contest and have a new appreciation for the need for physical fitness... at the end - with a respectable time - I for one was seeing spots in front of my eyes)
A big "THANKS" again goes to our S.W. Optimists! |
